Don’t forget, YOU are in the driver’s seat. There are many Locums agencies out there. Some of them are pretty good, but many of them are NOT.
Many people like communicating via text and social media these days. Those methods have a lot of value, especially for routine matters. But when you are choosing an agency, I would highly encourage you to have a real life TELEPHONE conversation with the agent. (Imagine that!!). ASK questions. Engage. If you choose the right person, it could be a very long term relationship!
Look for an agent….
- With experience. Someone who has been around and understands America’s healthcare delivery system.
- You enjoy talking to. Just as Doctors have different personalities, so do Locums agents! Someone you feel comfortable with. Believe me, after the seventh phone call or text message in a week asking for clarification on a credentialing question, you’ll realize how important it is to have that good rapport.
- YOU TRUST. That doesn’t always happen right away – it can take time. But this is a very serious, complex business. Even well managed assignments can have problems from time to time, or occasionally go totally bad. And when that happens, and tough decisions have to be made, you will want to be working with someone with the integrity to ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING!
